Designing with time

By examining changes at a microscopic level, this thesis explores the microstructure of wood to understand how and why natural materials decay over time. Investigating decay as a gradual process of transformation, the project conjectures an alternative approach to architecture: one in which ageing and decomposition become part of a structures’ character and lifecycle.
