The MA Architecture course offers a dynamic and distinctive programme of advanced postgraduate study, combining a high level of design and theoretical investigation with innovative representational methods and critical approaches to contemporary design and theory.

MA Architecture offers a unique opportunity to specialise in Architectural Design or Theory through three pathways: Cultural Identity and Globalisation, Digital Media, and History and Theory. Students graduate with a Master of Architecture degree with their chosen specialisation stated. Alternatively, they may combine modules relevant to professional practice, particularly if they intend to take advantage of the post-study work visa and pursue careers in the UK or internationally. 

The programme is both holistic and flexible, encouraging strategic rethinking of habitation at the scale of the city and neighbourhood, as well as conceptual and technical exploration of individual buildings or even a single room. It explores theories and design practices relating to socio-environmental ecologies, globalisation and identity. The range of modules encourages alternative modes of study and creative approaches to design, representation and research.

The course team, comprising academics and practitioners, provides extensive intellectual and practical support, enabling students to develop their own thesis topic through either a design or written thesis. The course also promotes live projects and collaboration with clients, institutions, NGOs and municipalities.

The MA offers more than a standalone Master’s degree. It helps students develop a strong research and design agenda for practice, RIBA Part 2/3 progression, or a PhD by Design after graduation. This year, the course has commenced MOU agreements with universities in Azerbaijan and Türkiye as part of its continuing global collaborations.
