AED Technical Studies BSc Architecture

TUTORS: Rosa Schiano-Phan, Rofayda Salem, Hugo Santos,Vera Sarioglu, Juan Vallejo

The principles of building physics and environmental design are integrated into all aspects of teaching to develop environmental design knowledge and application in the BSc AED.

Technical and Environmental Studies introduces students to the principles of measuring environmental conditions and designing buildings that respond conscientiously to their surroundings, with awareness to the future.

Teaching is delivered through lectures, a series of workshops and site visits. This develops from Year One, where students are engaged in how to measure real-world conditions with environmental sensors and learn to read, analyse and compare the quantitative and qualitative aspects of internal and external microclimatic conditions. This progresses in Year Two where students learn to use digital and semi-dynamic analytic tools in the design process.

By the final year, students are expected to analyse existing environments and create designs with the full integration of environmental knowledge, dynamic modelling and full-scale modelling of physical prototypes.
