Desert to the Sea

The labour market in Saudi Arabia has long employed workers from foreign countries. Construction workers make up the largest components of the workforce. Mainly due to economic reasons the workers arrive in the country with hopes of a better future not just for themselves but also for the families back home only to end up facing harsh challenges that range from emotional turmoil to physical exhaustion. In accordance with the subject of the thesis, the selected site is the proposed smart city the Line which promises to reshape the urban life; a community based city. The thesis aims to speculate on the future of the workers on the city Line as it gets built. By analysing the current camps and dissection of the line city modules, through intervention an alternate state of living is generated encompassing the desert and the sea.
